Yellowstone
I went there in the July 4th weekend of 2003.
I flew to Salt Lake city where I met my friends and then we did the 5 hour drive to Yellowstone.
You can fly to closer destinations too, but they might be more expensive.
We stayed in a travelodge or something just outside the park on the first day and in cabins inside the park the other two days. Since my friend did the bookings I dont remember the names.
The things we saw were: geysers, wild life and the lake.
There are a lot of geysers (fountains) to see. The old faithful, of course, is the best. The others are smaller ones and the Park has designated boardwalks around these, because the ground is thermally active.. There is a lot of wierd colorful stuff to look in such areas. Pick 2-3 main areas like these (I dont remember the names) because after watching the first couple, I became bored.
Watching Wild life is pretty much luck, dont forget to take some binoculars, you can borrow mine, I have spare ones. You will see different kinds of deer, lots of bison and if you are lucky(or unlucky) bear.
There is a lake worth spending some time on too...
There are a lot of streams/rivers around, so you can choose one spot and spend some quiet time too...if you like that kind of a thing.
